(AGE) has conducted an
ozone-sparging pilot test at 850 Milgeo Avenue, Ripon, California.
A K-V Associates Criegee Oxidation (C-Sparge) system was installed and initiated operation on
04 April 2003 and was terminated on 10 July 2003. The ozone generator is utilized to produce
gaseous ozone which is injected into the subsurface via microsparge points_ The "microbubbles"
(approximately 50 micrometers)are forced out into the surrounding saturated soil and-react with the
target analytes, producing carbon dioxide and water. The in-situ air stripping process utilizing fine
bubbles of ozone-rich air, injected into saturated soil to extract and decompose dissolved petroleum
hydrocarbon constituents. Ground water samples were collected twice from the existing monitoring
well network and analyzed. An overall reduction of total petroleum hydrocarbon as diesel (diesel)
was documented in the well with low and persistent concentrations of diesel and a reduction of the
total petroleum hydrocarbon as gasoline (gasoline) was observed in wells with high concentration
of both diesel and gasoline.
As documented in their letter of 16 October 2003,the State Water Resource Control Board(USTCF)
only approved a three month pilot test, therefore the evaluation of the results of the feasibility
analysis will be based on the operation of the ozone injection over that time period.
837 Shaw Road,Stockton, California 95215
Telephone(209) 467-1006 FAX(209)467-1118
