LABORATORY ERGONOMICS <br />Definition: Fitting the job to the worker <br />Goals: <br />Work in neutral postures or position that requires the least <br />amount of muscle forces and allows maximal room for <br />blood circulation. <br />Improve interaction between humans and machines and <br />tools used. <br />Awkward Postures includes: <br />Overhead reaching <br />Outstretching arms/legs <br />Twisting <br />Slouching <br />Bent wrists <br />Bending at the back <br />LABORATORY ERGONOMIC TIPS <br />Avoid the same position for an extended period of <br />time <br />Arms and hands should be at ease, rather than <br />tensed up <br />Avoid repetitive motions. Even by changing the way <br />of holding forceps every now and then can be <br />beneficial <br />Take small breaks in between to stretch muscles and <br />keep blood circulating <br />Use appropriate equipment for working comfort (such <br />as a chair at a proper height, a footrest, forearm pads) <br />If working with a computer, look away from the <br />screen and focus on something farther away for about <br />a minute every half hour. 41 <br />9/18/2019 <br />12
