i
' HEALTH RISK EVALUATION
FORMER VALLEY VOLKSWAGEN SM
647 E. MINER AVE., STOCKTON, CA
' Ground Zero Analysis has prepared the following evaluation of human health risk associated
with residual soil contamination at the site. Estimates of the mass of residual contaminants are
also presented.
' HUMAN HEALTH RISK EVALUATION
i ' The potential exists for human exposure to residual petroleum hydrocarbon contaminants at the
site. A quantitive evaluation of the potential health risk resulting therefrom was conducted in
order'to determine if the risk is significant.
' r in evaluating the risk.
The sections below describe the processes and parameters used a al g
Chemicals of Concern
i
Site characterization indicates that residual gasoline hydrocarbons are present in subsurface soil
t in the immediate vicinity of the former underground storage tanks (USTs) at the site. The
chemicals typically associated with gasoline that have the potential to pose a health risk consist
of the aromatic hydrocarbons benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes. Of these, only
ethylbenzene and xylenes have been detected in samples from the property. Nevertheless, due
to the fact that some detection limits were elevated, risk was evaluated for each of the aromatics.
Exposure Pathways
' The spectrum of possible exposure pathways at a given site for human receptors includes
ingestion of contaminated soil or groundwater, dermal contact with and absorption of
contaminants from soil or groundwater, and inhalation of vapors. Potential environmental
' receptors include wildlife and plantlife and the exposure pathways are similar. For a given site,
one or more of these potential exposure pathways may exist and others may not.
' Site characterization indicates that no current environmental exposure pathways exist. The
potential for leaching of soil contaminants to groundwater was not evaluated because recent
groundwater sampling indicates that impact has not occurred nor is it expected to occur.
' Exposure pathways for Potential human receptors were evaluated to determine which should be
evaluated for risk.
' vaUgyvwlreporla1rW.W
1
1
