NA=Not Analyzed
Jim Thorpe Oil of Stockton, California removed one 550-gallon waste oil, two 4,000-gallon unleaded
gasoline, and two 8,000-gallon unleaded gasoline underground storage tanks, and product delivery
lines on August 4, 1993 Three additional sand-filled tanks with smaller capacities were discovered
and removed during the tank removal operation A total of six soil samples were collected from
beneath the gasoline storage tanks at depths of 13 and 14 feet by Walsh& Associates, Inc under the
direction of Ms Pamela Violett of San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD),
additionally, two soil samples were collected from beneath the waste oil tank and pipeline at depths
of 7 and 2 feet, respectively (samples 7 and 8 on Figure 2)
Because of the obvious presence and apparent extent of subsurface contamination, only two of the
six soil samples(samples 1 and 6 on Figure 2) collected from beneath the gasoline storage tanks were
analyzed for TPHg and BTEX Of these two samples, the sample with the higher concentration
TPHg (sample 6 on Figure 2) was analyzed for soluble lead and ethylene dibromide (EDB)
Laboratory analyses of the soil samples indicated that TPHg(70 ppm)was present beneath the 4,000-
gallon tank formerly located at the northwest corner of the site, the laboratory analyses, however,
i indicated that the TPHg concentration in the sample collected from beneath the 8,000-gallon tank,
formerly located at the southeast corner of the site, was less than the minimum detection limit (<1
ppm)of the laboratory method(Table 2) Benzene was not detected in either sample analyzed by the
laboratory These results, however, are not likely representative of insitu contaminant concentrations
•
SEACOR 014-01-1 par 3
