The mass calculations arc included in the Quarterly Report for
August 1997.
DISCUSSION
The recent rise in ground water at the site has reduced the dkdvenems of the soil vapor
system, limiting the Zone of vapor remval to a low permeable flay and
requiem$ the openktion of TAS sYAM. Mw new site conditions will inctease the time
required to remove the majority of tim hydnocubons from the site.Noting that the unit las
cu=dY not operated with a sWMzed witus far Mm than thirty days,a review of the SVE
effectiveness and expec*d&when is anticipated for March of 1998,to allow for a minuiimum
of six morAhs of stable moa.
• The reported utility operational costs have.been approximately$1,000 for the operation of
the SVE.unit and LAS ground water system. Based on observed operating cost for similar
SVEW technologies at other =wdiation sites, this utility cost is reasonable for the
removal of the estimated quantity of hydrocarbons from the Chapin site.Additionally, the
overall cleanup costs for this site have been minby the otilizg&n of this KitWBuck
SVE unit, requiring no c*wive use of the State's underground storage tank fund available
for the Cham site or other tank sites.
Quarterly and monthly monitoring snood continue
.+drraar Geolr■rlrerrreaq,ore.
' Z'd 8 1 It 49V 60C WNC161AMXM C33MAW WDMU WdVB= l LW 4-6Z-0 t
