The emphasis is on destruction of contaminants on-site through biological oxidation. Remedia-
tion is accomplished, however, without the addition of genetically engineered microbes. The
FyreZymeTh1 formulation is harmless to plant and animal life, and requires no protective equipment
for handling or application. (See MSDS, Exhibit 4)
Vaporization, when present, is eliminated with a non-flammable, water based volatilization
agent. This agent is a blend of biodegradable emulsifiers, wetting and flame inhibiting agents which
inhibit the volatilization of gasoline, jet fuels, helicopter fuels, aviation gasoline, crude oil, and most
aliphatic and aromatic solvents. It eliminates the danger of fume inhalation, flammable and/or
explosive conditions. A PID meter is used any time soil is disturbed to monitor vaporization.
Scope of Work
Two 75' X 150' bioremediation cells will be constructed in the parking lot west of the stock-
piled soil. These cells will be contained by hay bale berms and lined with a flexible membrane liner
protected by a six-inch sand base.
[A
The stockpiled contaminated soil will be sere ed to two inches. Large rocks and debris will be
removed and stockpiled for disposal in a sanitary andfill. The screened soil will be placed on top of
the base-sand and spread to a maintained depth f 14" to 16". Additional contaminated soil, approxi-
mately 5 feet in depth, will be removed from a excavation area, screened and placed in the biocell.
Samples will be taken according to a sampli g plan to ensure all contamination is identified. The
enzymes and water will be added and tilled into the soil as needed for 30 days. Soil-gas monitoring
will be conducted with a PID meter to ensure control of all volatile organics. Vapor suppressant will
be applied if vaporization is detected. The cell will be covered with a waterproof material to main-
tain optimum temperature for bacterial activity and prevent excess moisture in the case of rain. Thi
cleaned soil will be used as backfill for the excavation area.
 sM Ptv►J(,t?
Permitting
Permitting authority and local agency oversight for UST Site Mitigation is the San Joaquin
County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division(PHS/EDH) 209/468-3450. All
work plans, and remediation activities will be coordinated through this agency.
Workplan
• Construct two 75' X 150' flexible membrane and sand lined, bermed biocells
adjacent to the stockpiled soils;
• Excavate the stockpiled soil, screen to two inches and place the soils into the
biocells;
• Excavate an additional 5 ft. of soil from the original excavation site, screen and
place in the biocell. I U
r
Take 18 soil samples from the excavation area; (See Exhibit 5) eight from the 0
bottom and 10 from the sides. More samples will be taken and soil excavated if
2
