CHAPTER 2
UST REMOVAL
Sheldon Oil Company (Sheldon) contracted O.H. Materials Company (OHM) to remove
a 265,000 gallon steel underground storage tank (UST) located near the southern property
boundary of the Kent's Oil facility (Site) during 1990. According to the OHM 1990 report,
product remaining in the UST was evacuated and the tank was removed. Upon completion of
the UST removal, OHM prepared a UST removal report that indicated that the structural integrity
of the UST had been compromised. Because hydrocarbons presumed to have come from the
UST were identified in the soil, OHM excavated approximately 1,700 cubic yards of hydrocarbon
affected soil after the UST was removed. Excavated soil was stockpiled on the western portion
of the Site in an area lined with visqueen plastic sheeting and bermed with straw bails. 'The
resulting excavation was approximately 60-feet long by 50-feet wide by 15-feet deep. Laboratory
analysis of soil samples collected by OHM from the sidewalls and bottom of the excavation
indicated that petroleum hydrocarbon affected soil was still present.
w
I
i
Use or disclosure of data contained on this sheet is subject to the restriction specified at the beginning of this dociunent.
i 2r-2w93 J-,7603\R EPOR7S\KENT-OiLCLO
QA{SAS2200
