P1 ,
Second Quarter 1995 Status Report 3
• Golden Grain Company, Manteca Bean Facility, 229 Moffat Blvd, Manteca, CA June 20, 1995
■ monitoring and calibrating the system lower explosive limit (LEL) meters
• recording operational data and maintaining vacuum extraction blowers and vapor
extraction system (VES)
• monitoring and recording operational data for the air stripper and making adjustments as
necessary
• monitoring the condition of the catalytic water conditioner which minimizes fouling
caused by the hardness of the water
■ performing a daily system operating parameters check via modem
The soil vapor extraction and groundwater treatment systems operated on a continuous basis this
quarter except for two periods of down time because of electrical and fouling problems In late
March, fuses in the phase converter and catalytic oxidizer failed, and water build-up in the Influent
vapor piping caused a high pressure shut-down of the vapor treatment system In late April, fouling
In the air stripper discharge piping caused a system shut-down
During this quarter of operation, there were no releases of untreated groundwater or untreated
• system effluent vapors System shutdowns were planned or occurred as a result of designed
system safety Interlocks, which shut down the remediation systems to preclude untreated releases
VAPOR EXTRACTION MONITORING
During this report period, the VES was monitored each week The influent and effluent vapor
concentrations were measured for TPH-g using an PID Values measured during site visits this
quarter are shown in table 3 On May 18 and 24, 1995, vapor samples were collected for analysis
from the VES influent and effluent of the catalytic oxidizer The samples from May 18 were analyzed
for BTEX and TPH-g, and the samples from May 24 were analyzed for total lead Results of
laboratory analyses are shown in table 5 Laboratory results indicate that effluent vapor
concentrations for all compounds or analytes were below method detection limits These effluent
analysis results are below the 100 ppmv TPH-g limits set by the Unified Air Pollution Control
District's Permit (No N-2625-1-0) to operate
Before the VES was sampled, the applied vacuum was measured at the four operating vapor
extraction wells and the Induced vacuum was measured at two monitoring wells within the VES
treatment area (tables 6 and 7) Readings were gathered to determine extraction well efficiency and
the Influence of the vapor extraction wells on the surrounding sod Results of field data collected
this quarter indicate expected vacuum effects on the surrounding area and are similar to previous
• quarters data
42020102 STR
❑®GEZOUNDWATER
❑❑❑TFXHN0WGY
