l <br /> Third Quarter 1994 Status Report 4 <br /> Golden Grain Company, Manteca Bean FacAity, 229 Moffat Blvd , Manteca, CA September 26, 1994 <br /> 07/13-14/94 The system was automatically shut down as a result of a high LEL alarm <br /> condition The audible alarm was active upon arriving at site, but the LEL <br /> indicated only 1 percent LEL The VES and groundwater systems were <br /> restarted after removing and cleaning the sensors, and was operating under <br /> normal conditions the day after the problem occurred <br /> 07/28-31/94 The catalytic oxidizer again shut down for an unknown reason It was later <br /> determined that a relay within the catalytic oxidizer was falling All system <br /> interlocks operated correctly, and the system was reset and operating under <br /> normal conditions on the same day that the problem was identified <br /> 08/06-09/94 A 1/2 amp controller fuse within the lead vapor scrubber failed, causing the <br /> entire system to shut down The fuse was replaced and the VES and <br /> groundwater system were operating under normal conditions within one day <br /> after Groundwater Technology had knowledge of the system shutdown <br /> 08/22-24/94 The catalytic oxidizer shut down because of a relay failure Several contacts <br /> of the MT-46 relay within the catalytic oxidizer were not functioning properly <br /> The Interlock wires were moved to unused contacts, but the entire relay <br /> needs replacement A new relay has been ordered The VES and <br /> groundwater systems were reset and was operational within a day after <br /> . Groundwater Technology had knowledge of the shutdown <br /> 09/06-08/94 The catalytic oxidizer shut down because of the MT-46 relay A new relay <br /> has been ordered, but has not yet been received or Installed The VES and <br /> groundwater system were reset and was operational within a day after <br /> Groundwater Technology had knowledge of the shutdown <br /> During this quarter of operation, there were no releases of untreated groundwater or untreated <br /> system effluent vapors System shutdowns were planned or occurred as a result of designed <br /> system safety Interlocks, which shut down the remediation systems to preclude untreated releases <br /> Calculations using TPH-g concentrations and system flow rates obtained during field visits Indicate <br /> that approximately 77 pounds of TPH-g were removed from the soil by the VES during this quarter <br /> The cumulative amount of hydrocarbons removed by VES since start-up is estimated at 3,397 <br /> pounds Less than 1 pound of TPH-g was removed from the groundwater during this quarter <br /> Calculations for mass removal from the vapor and grgundwater treatment systems for the second <br /> quarter are Included in attachment 3 <br /> During this reporting period, the VES was monitored each week The influent and effluent vapor <br /> concentrations were measured for TPH-g using an FID Values measured during site visits this <br /> quarter, as well as historical data from February 1994 are shown in table 3 The average destruction <br /> removal efficiency of 99 8 percent was calculated using weekly FID readings of the catalytic oxidizer <br /> • 0102RO14 202 <br /> ®GROUNDWATER <br /> TECHNOLOGY, INC <br />
