"`! •tea '. ny
w
.s
19
3.3.3.3 Permitting
Authority to construct the air emission control system will be obtained from the San Joaquin
County Air Pollution Control District. A source test will then be conducted to verily system performance,
T and a permit to operate will then be issued. The discharge limits are set using risk-based parameters.
The proposed treatment system will reduce (he observed influent concentrations to effluent levels
acceptable to the agency.
3.4 Groundwater Extraction
3.4.1 Recovery Well Location and Installation
The cross sections constructed for the site(Figur s 3 and 4)Indicate that a laterally continuous,
hydrocarbon-impacted water-bearing zone consisting of sands and silty sands is encountered at
approximately 29 feet BGS. Tne upper sand zone, from grade to 25 feet BGS,is dewatered during the
current drought conditions, and even in a wet year will not provide adequate flow. A screened interval ,.....
for the extraction well between 30 and 50 feet below grade is proposed. The recovery well will be located
near the former underground storage tank(Figure io),in the center of the plume of TPH-G and benzene,
To provide room for a water table depression pump and product recovery pump, the recovery well
will be 12 Inches in diameter. To prevent transport of hydrocarbons from the upper to the lower aquifer,
the recovery well will be installed utilizing air rotary drilling techniques and drive casing. Soil samples will
be collected at a minimum of five feet intervals, and classified in the field by a Groundwater Technology
geologist according to the Unified Soil Classification system. Tne samples will be screened for their
volatile hydrocarbon content in the field using a photoionization detector equipped with a 10.2 eV bulb.
Based on the lithologies encountered in the field, the exact screen interval may change from that
proposed here.
The annulus between the borehole and the well screen will be filled with a filter pack designed
based on sieve tests performed on Soil samples from the water bearing zone(Appendix 111). A two fool
bentonite sea]will be placed above the filter pack, and grout will be installed from the bentonite to within
jj2g of grade to provide a sanitary seal.
A permit to install the recovery well will be obtained from San Joaquin County Public Health
• [developed
rvices,Environmental Health Division(PHSIEHD). After installation, the recovery well will be thoroughly
by surging and pumping. Sustained flow rates during development will be recorded and used
establish the pump test parameters.
r 3 + 4o 7
Glt[lUNMN'am?
TunNOLOCY INC.
