GOLDEN GRAIN COMPANY 6
December 21, 1989
202/799-5045.06
slow; the hydrocarbon plume has not migrated more than a few
hundred feet from the original tank pit. There should be no
impact on any municipal well in the area.
2.2 SUMMARY OF PREVIOUS WORK
2.2.1 Tmnk Removal
Formerly, one 700-gallon underground storage tank, located
at the south end of the building, was used for the storage and
dispensing of regular leaded gasoline. The tank was removed by
SCS Engineers (SCS) on November 17, 1986. Analyses of soil
samples taken at that time revealed the presence of gasoline
hydrocarbons in the subsurface, prompting an investigation to
define the extent of hydrocarbons in soil and groundwater.
2,2.2 Mork Performed by sc8 Engineers
Four groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-4; Figure
3) , ranging from 25 to 30 feet deep, were installed in February
1957. Soil samples taken during well installation contained
hydrocarbons, as did groundwater samples collected from the four
wells. In an attempt to define the extent of subsurface
hydrocarbons, sc5 installed two more wells (MW-5 and MW-6) in May
1987 to depths of 25 feet. Hydrocarbons were not detected in
soil collected during drilling; however, groundwater samples
contained dissolved hydrocarbons. Two more wells (MW-7 and Mw-
8) were completed by SCS in December 1987. Well MW--7 was drilled
near the tank pit and completed with screen from 30 to 50 feet to
sample groundwater lower in the aquifer. soil and groundwater
samples from MW-7 contained hydrocarbons. MW-8, which was
installed north of the building to determine hydrocarbon
migration to--the- north,--was._campleted..to a_depth of 30 fee- ; no
GROUNDWATER
TECEINOLOGY.INC.
