'l 7 August 2000
• AGE-NC Project No. 98-0520
1
transported under chain-of-custody to McCambell Analytical,Inc.(MAI)The samples were analyzed
' for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
' Method-5030/8015M;
Volatile aromatics(benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene:.BTEX)with methyl tertiary-
butyl ether (MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 8020; and
• Fuel oxygenates,including tertiary butanol(TBA),di-isopropyl ether(RIPE),ethyl tert-butyl
ether (ETBE), tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME), and MTBE, with 1,2-Dichloroethane
(1,2-DCA) in accordance with,EPA Method 8260$.
' 3.0. FINDINGS
Ground water elevation, and flow direction were calculated from field data; hydrocarbon-impact to
ground water was inferred from laboratory analysis of ground water samples.
3.1'. GROUND WATER ELEVATION AND GRADIENT
The relative elevation of ground water in each well was calculated by subtracting the depth to ground
water from the surveyed relative casing elevations (Table 1). Depths to ground water ranged from
16.65 feet-to 17.42 feet below the tops of the well-casings. Ground water elevations ai-the site ranged
' from 19.61 feet (MW-3) to 19.70 feet (MW-4) above mean sea level.
The ground water flow direction was determined using ground water elevation data. The ground
' water underlying the site is flowing to the northwest under an average gradient of 0.0009 ft/fl. Figure
3 illustrates the contoured ground water elevations as measured on 17 May 2000.
1
3.2. ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
TPH-g was detected in all the water samples analyzed at concentrations ranging from 930
micrograms per liter (,t)g/1) in MW-4 to 20,000 kgll in MW-5.
Various BTEX compounds were detected in all of the water samples analyzed. Maximum benzene
and toluene concentrations were detected in the sample from MW-3 at 2.4 µg/1 and 2.2. µg11,
1 respectively. Maximum ethylbenzene and xylene concentrations were detected in the sample from
MW-5 at 1,600 pg/l and 1,900 i4l, respectively.
Advanced GcoEnviron mental,Inc.
