H. ears, po:
' P Ox
od , CA` 96363
Dear Mr. Priedbarg:
You asked when Chevron gasolines at the Banta Terminal first contained MT8E. The
reason behind your question Is that the State of California requires more testing when a
1 gasoline tank is dug up if the tank has stored gasoline oxygenated with MTBE.
The Banta Terminal is supplied almost exclusively with gasoline produced by Chevron's
Richmond refinery. The refinery started adding MTBE to gasoline In 1:991. Since the
federal/California winter oxygenate program did not begin until the fall of 1892, the
additlohs during 1991 and the first half of 1992 were to adjust octane. The additions
1 were intermittent and the concentrations were small at the beginning of the 1991. The use
became more regular and the concentrations became larger after June 1991. Throughout
1991, most of the use of MTBE was in Chevron Supreme Unleaded, with much 1038 or
none being used in Chevron Unleaded and Chevron Plus Unleaded.
Very truly yours,
David Lesnlni
Cs Ae 41! i♦fr 1 t`.S
1
, 1 I
