' Eckert Cold Storage Company
757 Moffat Blvd, Manteca, California July Z7, 2000
' Quarterly Groundwater sampling Report; June 2000 Page: 2
• Appendix C. The groundwater elevation at the site has fallen since last quarter by an
average of 1.78 feet across the site.
' Summary of Analytical Findings
This quarter contaminants were detected in all wells except for MW4, MW-6, and the
Domestic Well (See Table A). MW-2 was not sampled during this event.
Table A: Tabular Summary of Groundwater Analytical Data
3/27/00 Benzene Tol ene E-Benzene Xylene MTBE Diesel Gasoline
' Well u ua u u u m m
........1132
MW-3lit.....:.... . .: 8...:::......... . .......... :.... . .. Well
MTBE contamination is present this quarter at levels below the maximum allowable (35
' ug/L) set by the State of California for the third consecutive quarter. The fact that MTBE
is found on-site is curious because MTBE was not present in the fuels on-site.
' The levels of Benzene in wells MW-1, MW-3, and MW-8 have increased since the last
monitoring event in March 2000. It is unknown if an increase in Benzene has occurred in
MW-5 and MW-7 since last quarter because those wells were not sampled in March
2000. Based on past and present analytical data, Benzene is the constituent that poses the
greatest threat to human health and the environment but it is not found in the receptor
' only 250 feet to the northwest.
The analysis of the water from the on-site domestic well did not reveal the presence of
contamination. All of the constituents tested using EPA method 524.2 were not detected
' at or above the reporting limits. The domestic well is a receptor in close proximity to the
contaminated area (250' to the northwest) and does not show the presence of any
petroieum related chemical. The contamination has had approximately 14 years to
migrate to the receptor but the analytical data indicates that this receptor is not adversely
affected.
WBF will determine an effective method to sample MW-2 so that it can be incorporated
into the next quarter's sampling event. During this sampling event two types of pumps
1
