Third Quarter 2003 Groundwater Monitoring Report
Eckert Cold Storage,Manteca,California
October 14,2003
Page 3
• LABORATORY ANALYTICAL RESULTS
The groundwater samples collected from monitor wells MW-4, MW-8, and domestic well DW-1 were
analyzed for BTEX, TPH-G, and selected gasoline oxygenates/additives including MTBE by Argon
Laboratories of Ceres, California. Monitor well MW-2 was not sampled as damage to the well casing
during installation of the well prevents the placement of pumps and bailers down the well. Monitor wells
MW-5 and MW-7 are sampled annually in the fourth quarter. Monitor wells MW-1, MW-3, and MW-6
are no longer sampled. This reduction in sampling was approved by Mr. Harlin Knoll of SJCEHD in a fax
dated March 21, 2003.
The current laboratory analytical results, shown in Table 2, below, are generally consistent with historical
laboratory analytical results. Historical groundwater monitoring data are included in Attachment C.
Laboratory certificates of analyses and the chain-of-custody for the samples are included in Attachment
D.
Table 2 —Groundwater Sample Laboratory Analytical Results (September 2 and 3, 2003)
GASOLINE OXYGENATES/ADDITIVES
B T E X TPH-G
MTBE Other Gasoline Oxygenates/Additives
Units: }ig/L µg/L Ag/L µg/L mg/L µg/L Pg/1-
Analytical
g/LAnalytical Method:
• 8260B 8260B 8260B 8260B 8015M 82608 8260E
Sample I.D.
3471-MW4-9/2/03 <0.5 <0.5 <0.5 <1.0 <0.05 1.5 4.1(1,2-DCA)
3471-MW8-9/3/03 330 5.3 120 51 4.0 21 96(TBA)
3471-DW-9/2/03 <0.5 <0.5 <0.5 <1.0 <0.05 <0.5 <0.5—<5.0
Units: Analytical:
mg/L:milligrams per liter,parts per million(ppm) B,T,E,X=benzene,toluene,ethyl benzene,total xylenes
g/L:micrograms per liter, parts per billion(ppb) TPH-G=total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline
Gasoline oxygenates/additives= methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE),ethanol,
tertiary-butanol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPS), ethyl tertiary butyl ether
(ETBE),tertiary amyl methyl ether(TAME), 1,2-dibromoethane(EDB), 1,2-
dichloroethane(1,2-DCA)
= all other oxygenates/additives were not detected at or above the
laboratory reported detection limits
FUTURE WORK/RECOMMENDATIONS
The SJCEHD has indicated that continued quarterly groundwater monitoring is required at the site. The
next quarterly monitoring event is scheduled for December 2003. This will be the annual monitoring
event and will include sampling of monitor wells MW-5 and MW-7 in addition to the quarterly sampling
of monitor wells MW-4, Iv1W-8, and the domestic well DW-1.
i
.1 CONDOR
