The following chronology of the file will clarify to you why the
farmer UST site cannot be closed without further investigation.
20 March 1987 - PHS/EHD received a statement and a tank receipt
indicating that the 500 gallon gasoline UST (Tank #4) had been removed
in July 1986 by employees of Eckert Cold Storage Co.
1 April 1987 - A site inspection was made by a representative of PHS/EHD
to witness sampling from the 1986 tank removal pit. Obvious soil
contamination was observed and noted by the PHS/EHD inspector.
10 June 1987 - Analytical results received from the 1 April 1987
sampling event. The following soil contamination was documented:
sample #1 P-42383 EPA Method 8015
47,200 ppb = 47.2 ppm Benzene (B)
134,500 ppb = 143.5 ppm Toluene (T)
132,229 ppb = 132.229 ppm Xylene (X)
331 ppb = .331 ppm Ethylene dibromide (EDB)
2,005 ppm Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons, Gasoline (TPH-G)
10,000 ppb = 10 ppm Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons, Diesel (TPH-D)
Sample #1 P-42384 EPA Method 8015
41 ppm Benzene
375 ppm .Toluene
533 ppm Xylene
5,800 ppm TPH-G
46 ppm TPH-D
Sample #1 16' (Water) (P-42384) EPA Method 602/601
973 ppb 1,2-Dichloroethane (DCA)
127,000 ppb Toluene
24,700 ppb Ethyl Benzene
54,000 ppb Benzene
117,000 ppb Xylene
13 July 1987 - Doug Wilson telephoned Mr. Joe Martin and explained that
further investigative work would be required to determine the extent of
the contamination. During the conversation, Mr. Martin was also advised
to sample the on-site domestic well to verify compliance.
18 August 1987 - Mr. Martin contacted again to schedule sampling of the
domestic/production well.
L
LA 1?kisinn u1'San,juayuin Cunotr Health Care ticniceN
