Soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals. Proposed monitoring well and soil
a boring locations are shown in Figure 2.
J
3.1 Soll Sample Collection and Screening
f -A A California modified split-barrel sampler will be used to extinct the soil samples from the soil borings.
l Three 6-inch brass tubes will be inserted into the California sampler to retain the soil samples. Upon
pj retrieval, one brass tube will be capped, packaged, and placed in a sealed jar until completion of the
I :M drilling activities. The samples placed in jars will be brought to room temperature, and the headspace
of each jar will be screened for total organic vapors utilizing a PID with a 10.2 eV Iamp calibrated to
J benzene for direct reading in parts per million. Refer to Appendix D for sampling and screening methods.
• (fed ..
F ( 3.2 Monitoring Well installation
~ The purpose of the monitoring wells is to determine if ground water contains petroleum hydrocarbons.
Monitoring wells will by installed by drilling a 10-inch-diameter borehole to approximately 10 feet below
} the water table and installing 15 feet of 4-inch-diameter flush-threaded,No. 20 slot, polyvinyl chloride.
(PVC)screen, and approximatcly 25 feet of flush-threaded blank. The screened interval will be backfilled
with No. 3 Monterey sand to a point approximately 2 feet above the screened interval; a 2-foot-thick
bentonite seal will be placed above the sand. The remaining hole will be demented, and a flush-grade
steel pmtectivre casing will be installed at the ground surface to provide a secure wellhead. Typical
monitoring well details are shown in Figure S.
3.3 Chemical Any?_ s
a r Selected soil samples collected from the soil borings, and ground water samples from the monitoring wells
- s
+ will be sent to a California-certified Iaboratory for chemical analyses. The samples will be analyzed for
t BTEX by EPA Method WW,and TPH as gasoline by EPA Method 8015, modified.
j
4.0 SCHEDULE
As soon-as approial-is obtained,-Delta will-proceed with-the-work outlined-in this-plan.Drilling-and- - ---- - — -
a installation of the monitoring wells will be initiated within 3 weeks of approval.
