OTHER ACTIVITIES
PZIa (s), ASI(s) and ASI (d) were properly abandoned on January 24 and 25, 2005 according to
ATC's Work Plan for Domestic Well Destruction, dated October 26, 2004
ANALYTICAL RESULTS
TPHg was detected in MW1, MW2, MW3, MW4, MW6, MW7, MW8, and DW in
concentrations of 26,000 micrograms per liter (ug/L), 120,000 ug/L, 88,000 ug/L, 1,300 ug/L,
55,000 ug/L, 6,000 ug/L, 4,400 ug/L and 11,000 ug/L BTEX components were detected in
MWI, MW2, MW3, MW4, MW6, MW7, MW8 and DW The highest concentrations of
benzene, toluene, and xylenes were detected in MW2 at concentrations respectively of 25,000
ug/L, 21,000 ug/L, and 27,000 ug/L The highest concentration of ethylbenzene was in MW3 at
5,600 ug/L The groundwater samples collected from MW5, MW9, and MW10 contained no
detectable concentrations of TPHg or BTEX
Groundwater samples collected from MW1 through MW10 and DW did not contain detectable
concentrations of MTBE by EPA Method 8021B
. Analytical results of groundwater samples are summarized in Table 2 Laboratory data sheets
and chain-of-custody documentation are contained in Attachment 2
CARBON FILTRATION SYSTEM
In May 2002, a granular activated carbon (GAC) filtration system consisting of two 200-pound
high-pressure liquid phase carbon canisters was installed to remove petroleum hydrocarbons
from DW System samples collected from the first and second effluent ports are identified as
1 CC Effluent (sample after the first carbon canister) and 2CC Effluent (sample after the second
carbon canister) in the filtration system
Sampling of the filtration system was conducted monthly during the First Quarter 2005 On
January 21, 2005 target analytes (i e , TPHg, benzene, toluene and xylenes were detected in ICC
Effluent but were not detected in 2CC Effluent On February 21, 2005 high concentrations of
TPHg and BTEX components were detected in ICC Effluent, but not 2CC Effluent On March
4, 2005 target analytes detected in 1CC Effluent TPHg was also detected in 2CC Effluent (i e ,
breakthrough occurred) at 190 ug/L BTEX was detected in the 2CC Effluent at 50 ug/L, 19
ug/L, 22 ug/L and 3 1 ug/L respectively Analytical results are summarized in Table 3 and
analytical data is contained in Attachment 3 The chain of custody for samples taken on January
21 are dated December 21, 2005 in the sample description All samples were taken on January
21, 2005, which is reflected by signatures and laboratory documents
