GEOLOGY
The on-site investigation conducted thus far has revealed
the following subsurface features . A three to four foot
interval of silty sand and sandy gravel lies beneath the
asphalt surface . It seems likely that this interval consists
of railroad bedding material covered by fill prior to paving .
Undisturbed samples could not be collected due to the quantity
and size of the gravel encountered.
Below the sand and gravel is an extensive clay layer .
Organic and silt components varied vertically throughout the
clay. The clay was not punctured by the soil borings within
which the second boring attained a maximum depth of 18 feet.
The clay was fully penetrated during the installation of
the monitoring well and both piezometers. The subjacent
interval contained silts and very fine sands with a high
percentage of silt and clay-sized particles.
3
