' Former Nelson Read} Mix Page 2
Groundwater Monitoring Well Construction
' GPE Project No 1112
March 30 2006
' stockpiled on the site for bio-remediation Two of four confirmation soil samples
and the groundwater that accumulated in the pit contained diesel-range
petroleum hydrocarbons The San Joaquin Environmental Health Department
' directed that additional investigation of the soil and groundwater be conducted
In a report dated December 23, 2005, ARCADIS, on behalf of LKQ Corporation
documented the installation of three Geo-Probe soil borings and the collection
' and testing of soil and groundwater samples One of the borings was advanced
at a point directly through the former tank pit and the other two were at points
south of the pit The highest diesel concentration from a soil sample was 150
parts per million Groundwater samples from all three borings contained low
concentrations of diesel hydrocarbons ranging from 1,400 to 19,000 parts per
' billion Based on these results, the decision was made to construct a suite of
three groundwater monitoring wells at points approximately equidistant from
the former tank pit
Geo-Phase Environmental, Inc assumed responsibility as the environmental
consultant for the investigation on December 22, 2005 On January 17, 2005 a
Work Plan describing methods and protocols to be used in constructing the wells
was submitted to the San Joaquin County Department of Environmental
• Health The Work Plan was approved on January 30, 2006, and subsequently
was executed This report documents the construction and sampling of the
wells, and the completion of a sensitive receptor survey
1.2 Scope of Work
' To further characterize the extent of hydrocarbon contamination from this fuel
release, the following work was completed
' • Six composite soil samples were collected from the spoil pile containing
approximately 300 yards of material excavated from around and under
the tank pit Based on the laboratory analytical results, approximately
half of the soil was disposed of on the premises
• Three hollow stem auger borings were drilled to a total depth of 20 feet
fbelow grade The borings were later converted groundwater monitoring
wells The wells were distributed around the point of release The well
' borings were logged, and soil samples collected for geologic description
and possible laboratory analysis (see boring logs in Appendix B)
• The borings were converted to groundwater monitoring wells, developed,
• and sampled The resulting groundwater samples were submitted to a
State certified laboratory for analytical testing
' 2937 Veneman Ave ,##B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc Phone (209) 569-0293
Modesto, CA 95356 Fax (209) 569-0293
