• Section No. 6 <br /> Revision No 1 <br /> Date January 13, 1992 <br /> Page 29 0£ 55 <br /> Prior to and between use, all drilling and sampling equipment will be <br /> thoroughly steam-cleaned to ensure sample integrity and to prevent cross- <br /> contamination between sampling points <br /> All borehole soil samples for chemical analyses will be collected using <br /> a modified Diedrich 3-inch O D (2 5 inch 1 D ) by 18-inch long split barrel <br /> sampler The sampler will be lined with special 6-inch long aluminum liners <br /> which become the sample containers The aluminum liners will be prepared in <br /> advance using the procedures outlined in Section 6 5 <br /> Soil samples will be collected using the following protocols <br /> ■ The hollow-stem auger will be advanced to a point immediately above <br /> the desired sample interval depth, <br /> a The modified Diedrich sampler, equipped with clean aluminum tubes, <br /> will be driven by the 140-pound cat-head hammer or hydraulically <br /> advanced into the undisturbed materials, <br /> o The Diedrich sampler will be retrieved from the borehole, dis- <br /> assembled, and the aluminum tube sleeves will be removed from the <br /> sampler, <br /> ■ The sample interval(s) to be retained for chemical analyses will be <br /> briefly inspected for lithology and then capped with teflon- lined <br /> plastic lids The lids will then be secured with adhesiveless tape <br /> (NOTE Shallow tubes will be used for sample submittal only if <br /> recovery from the deepest tube is insufficient ) , <br /> ■ Following sample collection, all sample containers will be stored, <br /> labeled, and transported to the analytical laboratory in accordance <br /> with the procedures in Sections 6 6 and 7 0, <br /> ■ Organic vapor readings of the headspace above all tubes not packaged <br /> for analysis will be measured using a Foxboro OVA, Photovac TIP, or <br /> equivalent instrument calibrated per manufacturer's instructions , if <br /> specified in the sampling and analysis plan, <br /> ■ The soil sample will be logged into the field sample control book <br /> and pertinent information recorded as described in Section 10 <br /> • <br /> 6-29 <br />
