(AGE) for
the above-referenced site pursuant to consideration of the site for regulatory closure.
EHD has concerns regarding the recent detection of gasoline in monitoring wells MW-2,
MW-3, MW-4, MW-6, and MW-8, and the high concentrations of methyl tertiary-butyl
ether(MTBE) currently found in groundwater samples from MW-3, MW-4, and MW-6.
MTBE is reported at 320 micrograms per liter (µg/L), well above the California
Environmental Protection Agency Regional Water Quality Control Board Central Valley
Region maximum contaminant level (MCL) of 13 ltg/L.
r
Additional information is needed before site closure can be considered. To date, the
vertical extent of impacted groundwater has not been delineated at this site. Site
litliology is unknown beneath 30 feet below surface grade (bsg). You are directed to
submit a work plan to EHD by January 29, 2005 that will investigate the soil lithology
below 30 feet and define the vertical extent of contamination in groundwater at this site.
A number of inconsistencies were noted in the two reports that EHD reviewed. Most
notably were the following:
Closure Suixjria ' P —Report April 2004
 P
Section 2.3 Preliminary Site Investi ation
All ten soil borings (P1 through P10)were apparently advanced to 30 feet bsg.
Please revise the narrative to reflect this information. Also, the boring logs for P1
through P10 were included in Appendix B (not Appendix C), and inadvertently 1
indicate that these boreholes were completed as monitoring wells. Please revise
and resubmit the boring logs for P1 through P10.
l
