ON-SITE CONTROL <br /> The Site Safety Officer will coordinate site access control and security. A exclusion zone will be <br /> established approximately 10 feet around excavation work areas.No unauthorized person shall be <br /> allowed within this exclusion area. <br /> 4.0. HAZARD EVALUATION <br /> The following substance(s)or hazards are known or suspected to be on site. <br /> SUBSTANCES INVOLVED '" CONCENTRATIONS: <br /> Benzene -- <br /> Toluene -- <br /> Ethyl-benzene -- <br /> Total xylenes -- <br /> MTBE Up to 300 µg/1 <br /> Diesel Up to 1,000 µg/1 <br /> Gasoline Up to 100 1 <br /> The primary hazards of each are identified as follows: <br /> 1. Hydrocarbon fuels - Components of fuels are colorless liquids with strong aromatic <br /> petroleum hydrocarbon-like odors. They are flammable and have low solubility in water. <br /> Exposure to these materials in excess of recommended exposure limits can cause mild eye, <br /> nose, and throat irritation and can produce a narcotic effect on the central nervous system. <br /> Symptoms of exposure at these concentrations include headache, nausea, drowsiness, <br /> dizziness,and loss ofcoordination.Certain components of gasoline(BTE&X etc.)are known <br /> or suspected carcinogens. <br /> The additional potential hazards include: Slip-trip-fall hazards, noise, heavy equipment (i.e., rig), <br /> vibration hazards, traffic hazards, etc. <br /> Advanced GeoEn vironmentul,Inc. <br />
