k%j KLEINFELDER
3.1.4 MONITORING WELL DEVELOPMENT AND SAMPLING
The three wells were developed on November 8, 1988. Water level measurements were
collected from each well prior to initiating the development. Each well was first sampled
with a clear acrylic bailer to visually inspect for a product layer or sheen. No product layer,
sheen, or hydrocarbon odor were observed on the water samples bailed from the
monitoring wells. The wells were developed with a bailer by surging along the screened
interval to draw the sediment into the well and set the sand pack. The sediment laden
water was removed from the well using a bailer or centrifugal pump. Development
continued until the discharge water was relatively free of fines. Approximately 7 gallons
were removed from MW-1 because of the slow recharge rate. Approximately 31 gallons
were removed from MW-2 and 18 gallons from MW-3.
On November 11, 1988, the three wells were purged and sampled. Water level
measurements were collected from all three wells prior to purging and sampling. An
acrylic bailer was used to visually inspect for a product layer or sheen. No product layer,
sheen, or hydrocarbon odor were observed in the bailed sample from each well. Each well
was purged with a Teflon bailer. While purging, field parameters (pH, conductivity, and
temperature) were monitored. After the field parameters appeared to stabilize and
approximately 4 to 7 well volumes were purged from each well, a representative ground
water sample was collected in a liter bottle and two milliliter VOAs. The sample bottles
were immediately sealed, labeled, and placed in an iced cooler for temporary storage.
Sample 29042 was collected from MW-1, Sample 29043 from MW-2, and Sample 29041
from MW-3. Monitoring well development and purge data sheets are included in
Appendix B.
All development and sampling equipment was steam cleaned and/or washed in a trisodium
phosphate solution and distilled water rinse prior to use in each well. Water Sample 29044
is an equipment blank collected from the decontaminated equipment. The equipment
blank was not analyzed by the laboratory. All water generated during the well
development and sampling was containerized, labeled, and stored onsite.
3.1.5 MONITORING WELL ELEVATION SURVEY
On November 11, 1988, the relative elevations of the tops of the 2-inch PVC casings were
surveyed by Associated Land Consultants, LS4268. The casing elevations for the three
161-89-107 7
