k'9 KLEINFELDER
6 DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS
6.1 SOIL
A total of twenty soil samples were submitted under chain-of-custody procedures to Sequoia
Analytical Laboratory of Sacramento, California. Sequoia is a State of California Department of
Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) certified laboratory for the analyses requested. Hydrocarbon-
like odors and discoloration were present in soil samples collected at the five foot depth interval
in EB-1/TW-1 and EB-2/TW-2. The soil in the five foot depth interval was noted with minor
wood debris. Hydrocarbon-like odors were not noted from other soil samples collected. PID
readings recorded from the samples collected ranged from 2.3 to 6.5 ppmv.
A total of eight soil samples were analyzed, four from each of the two borings. The four soil
samples submitted for analyses from each boring were collected at depths of 5, 20, 35, and 40-
feet. These soil samples selected for analysis were based on PID readings, field observations, and
the objectives of the scope of work. For additional information, see the laboratory data sheets
and Chain-of-Custody records in Appendix D.
The eight soil samples were analyzed for the following:
• Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as referenced to Diesel [TPH-D] and Lubricating Oil [TPH-
LO], and/or any Unidentified Extractable Hydrocarbons [TPH-UEH] by EPA Method
3510/8015M)
• Total Purgeable Petroleum Hydrocarbons as referenced to Gasoline [TPH-G] by EPA
Method 8015M
• Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylenes [BTEX] by EPA Method 8020 or 602
• Total lead by EPA Methods
The samples were analyzed on a normal laboratory schedule requiring approximately two weeks
(ten working days). For a summary of the results obtained, please refer to Table 1 in Chapter 5
of this report.
No purgeable hydrocarbons as referenced to gas or the gasoline constituents benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, or xylenes (BTEX) were detected in the soil samples submitted for analyses.
Unidentified extractable hydrocarbons (UEHs) were detected in both borings, EB-1/TW-1 and
EB-2/TW-2, at a depth of 5-feet bgs in the C„ to C,o range. UEHs was detected at concentrations
of 62.7 mg/kg and 13.5 mg/kg , respectively. Total lead was also detected at 30.7 mg/kg in the
20-3712-08.E01/2018R510 Page 10 of 16
© 1998, Kleinfelder, Inc. July 9, 1998
