Kennedy/Jenks Consultants
APPENDIX C
RECONNAISSANCE GROUNDWATER SAMPLING PROCEDURES
This appendix describes the equipment and procedures which will be used by
Kennedy/Jenks Consultants personnel for collecting reconnaissance groundwater samples
with a HydropunchTM tool. The following equipment and procedures will be employed:
EQUIPMENT
• HydropunchTM sampling device
• HydropunchTM point and screen
• Steam cleaner
• Stiff-bristle brushes
• Buckets
• Trisodium phosphate soap (TSP)
• Deionized water
HYDROPUNCHTM PROCEDURES
• The HydropunchTM sampler will be pushed into undisturbed soil using the drill rig's
hydraulics. The sample chamber and intake pipe will be shielded in a watertight
housing that prevents contaminated soil or groundwater from entering the unit.
• When the HydropunchTM is at the appropriate depth for sampling, approximately
50 feet bgs, the sampler will be retracted approximately 3 feet. This exposes the
screened interval to the water-bearing sediments, permitting groundwater to flow into a
PVC screened casing.
• The groundwater sample will be collected by lowering a clean 1-inch diameter Teflon or
stainless steel bailer with a bottom check valve through the center of the rods. The
sample will then be drained directly into the appropriate sample container(s).
LABORATORY ANALYSIS
• As required by the anticipated analyses, appropriate containers will be labeled and
filled.
• Labels will document the sample, designation, type, date and time of collection,
collector(s), location, and any additional information.
• Chain-of-custody records will be completed, and included with the samples which will
be transported on ice in insulated containers to a certified laboratory.
i:\job\96\966070.01\workp la n\a ppend-c.d oc C-1
