The Report summarizes the eight test
pits dug to determine the location of the former pipelines and the 190 soil borings in 13 areas along the
former pipelines. Based on the soil sampling results from the borings, Shell submitted the Work Plan.
The Work Plan proposes 38 borings to collect soil and grab groundwater samples to delineate the extent
of petroleum hydrocarbon pollution in soil and groundwater.
We have the following comments on the Report:
1. Some figures in the Report, such as Figure 4a, do not include a legend. All figures must include a
legend.
2. Table 1 in the Report is several pages, but the column header is only shown on the first page. For
future reports containing multiple page tables, Shell must include the column identifier on each page.
3. The boring logs included in the Report do not list organic vapor analysis (OVA) readings. This
information is helpful for identifying areas of pollution and needed to address any health and safety
concerns. Future boring logs need to include OVA readings.
Regional Board staff concurs with the Work Plan. By 13 May 2005,please provide an investigation
report as proposed in Section 4.0 of the Work Plan. If you have any questions you may contact me at
(916) 464-4719 or dlewis@waterboards.ca.gov.
lvej
DEVRA LEWIS
Environmental Scientist
cc: Mr. Michael Infurna, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department, Stockton
Mr. Erik Teed-Bose, Trimark Communities LLC, Tracy
Mr. Michael Hurd, Clayton Group Services,Pleasanton
Mr. Ron Skaggs, Condor Earth Technologies, Inc., Stockton
California Environmental Protection Agency
01 Recycled Paper
