The Work Plan proposes to collect soil and grab
groundwater samples from up to 14 borings to determine the condition of soil and groundwater
in the vicinity of the former pipelines. Shell will drill the two borings proposed furthest away
from the pipeline only if there is evidence of pollution in the adjacent borings. Shell proposes to
drill the borings to first encountered groundwater. The Work Plan also includes a Health and
Safety Plan(HSP).
Although the Objectives Section of the Work Plan was not complete and the figure listed in the
HSP was not included,Regional Board staff concurs with the Work Plan. By 9 January 2004,
please submit-an investigation report detailing field activities and sampling results and including
boring logs and recommendations for additional investigative work, if needed.
