r +
KEI-P92-0205 .QR2
July 13 , 1993
Page 3
DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
KEI has submitted a request to review the files for the adjacent
bulk petroleum storage and distribution sites at the offices of the
San Joaquin County Department of Public Health Services . KEI
previously conducted a file review for these adjacent sites in
April of 1992 . A large petroleum release reportedly occurred at
the nearby Arco Terminal during a fare in the early 1980 ' s .
After completing the review of the files for adjacent sites, and
based on the analytical results of the samples collected from the
Unocal site, KEI will provide recommendations regarding the
continuation or termination of the ground water monitoring and
sampling program (or any additional warranted work) at the Unocal
site It should be noted that the only well at the former Unocal
site that showed any detectable concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons during the past quarter is the well (MW5) that is
farthest removed from the location of the former Unocal storage
tanks and loading rack .
DISTRIBUTION
A copy of this report should be sent to Ms. Charlene Wall at the
Port of Stockton, to Mr Harlin Knoll of the San Joaquin County
Public Health Services , and to the Regional Water Quality Control
Board, Central Valley Region.
LIMITATIONS
Environmental changes, either naturally-occurring or artificially-
induced, may cause changes in ground water levels and flow paths,
thereby changing the extent and concentration of any contaminants.
Our studies assume that the field and laboratory data are reason-
ably representative of the site as a whole, and assume that subsur-
face conditions are reasonably conducive to interpolation and
extrapolation.
The results of this study are based on the data obtained from the
field and laboratory analyses obtained from a state-certified
laboratory. We have analyzed these data using what we believe to
be currently applicable engineering techniques and principles in
the Northern California region. We make no warranty, either
expressed or implied, regarding the above, including laboratory
analyses, except that our services have been performed in accor-
dance with generally accepted professional principles and practices
existing for such work.
