The
STTC is composed of ARCO Products, ST Services, Tesoro Petroleum Company, and Time Oil.
The QMR discusses the groundwater monitoring event conducted in August 2001. The Work
Plan proposes to conduct aquifer tests and pilot studies for peroxide and iron catalyst injection,
dual phase extraction, and ozone injection. STTC recommends these pilot tests based on the
evaluation of remedial alternatives presented in the 14 August 2001 Remedial Alternatives
Feasibility Study. We have no comments on the Work Plan.
We have the following comments on the QMR:
1. The QMR notes that nine monitoring wells were inaccessible or could not be found. As
advised in previous letters, STTC must locate and resurvey site monitoring wells.
2. STTC should repair monitoring wells as described in the field data sheets.
3. The lateral extent of contamination near wells TO/T-2, TO/T-1, and TO/R-1 is not
defined. STTC must evaluate and discuss the lateral extent of contamination in the
annual report.
STTC must address the above comments in the annual report, which is due by 30 January 2002.
The Work Plan is hereby approved. Based on the schedule presented in the Work Plan,by
28 June 2002, please submit a pilot study report summarizing all field activities, analytical
results, and test results, evaluating each pilot test performance, and including recommendations
California Environmental Protection Agency
¢tea Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.
