Project No. 8753009Q- 2
Woodward-Clyde Consultants
Following piezometer installation, piezometer elevations (relative to a
"V"-cut on the piezometer casing) were surveyed relative to a reference
point (telephone vault in front of ARCO mail boxes). All resulting surface
and groundwater elevations are reported with respect to the reference
point (see Table C-1, Appendix C). '
Piezometer Development and Water Level Measurement
The piezometers were developed on January 26 and 27, 1987. Each
piezometer was surged and the standing water and mud were airlifted from
the casing. Water levels were allowed to recover prior to subsequent
measurements.
Water level measurements were obtained on January 26, 27, and 28, 1987
and again on February 12, 1987. A steel tape and water/product finding
paste were used to obtain water level measurements to an apparent accura-
cy of a .01 ft. Piezometers were also evaluated for the presence/ absence
of product by the method described above. Results are presented in
Table C-1 (Appendix C). Of the measurements taken on January 26-28,
only the January 28 water elevation measurements are presented in the
table. Because water recharge following development was very slow, the
last measurement was judged most representative of the potentiometric
I water surface. The February 12 measurements were made to confirm the
validity of the January 28 measurements. The position of the water table
I relative to the screened interval is also presented in Table C-1 for each
date of water elevation measurements.
Observations
IOn January 26, 1987, prior to development, all piezometers were evaluated
I for the presence of product using the following method. Individual
lengths of 3/8" Tygon tubing were inserted into the piezometer below the
water surface. The tubing was clipped (sealed) and removed. The liquid
I
consents were released into a VOA vial (about 112 to 3/4 full) ; the vial
1
-6-
