1
III. POTENTIAL SOURCE EVALUATION
1 The following paragraphs provide a review of the efforts
1 taken to date to identify the source of contamination.
Every conceivable source has been listed, followed by a
feasibility evaluation.
1
A. Surface Spill At Time Oil Co. Receiving Line Header
1
The header is in the center of the area where
1 gasoline was found in the soil. A flange in this
area was recently found to be faulty (a "weepil) .
1 However, frequent inspection of this line ensures
that no leak can go undetected for long. The
quantity of gasoline recovered so far, if it had
1 been spilled on the ground, could not have gone
unnoticed. No major surface spills have occurred in
1 this area.
1 B. Surface Spill In Time Oil Co. Tank Farm
1 In November of 1981 a spill of 1, 780 barrels of
unleaded regular gasoline occurred during product
transfer in tank 10004. In September of 1983
1 another spill of 500 barrels of unleaded regular
gasoline occurred during product transfer into tank
1 7701. The area affected by these spills is shown on
Figure 9. The majority of gasoline spilled was
1 cleaned up by vacuum truck. That which soaked into
the ground has been removed by pumping from five
1 recovery wells (R1 - R5) installed for that purpose.
The wells (plus a sixth which was not pumped) have
been free of floating product for at least a year.
1 These spills cannot account for the problem
currently being investigated since they were down
1
1 - 18 -
