Four <br /> posts shall be positioner) around the perimeter of each concrete pad, at the center of each side. <br /> The outside only of the protective casing, hinges, and covers/caps shall be painted fluorescent <br /> orange. Painting is required to be completed and dry prior to development. Extra care shall be <br /> taken to insure that no paint or aerosol spray enters into the well. <br /> The well designation shall be painted on the outside of the protective casing using white paint <br /> and stencil. This identification shall be done after the casing is painted as described above. <br /> Painting is required to be completed and dry prior to development. <br /> 3.05 ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL <br /> A. Disposal of Development and Testing Water <br /> Contractor shall submit a water disposal plan for Engineer's approval prior to initiation of <br /> development pumping. Water, including mud, sand, and debris pumped from the well during <br /> development and testing shall be disposed of in such a manner as not to damage or interfere with <br /> work or property of others. <br /> Prior to discharge into drainage facilities, a temporary settling basin shall be provided that <br /> eliminates discharge of mud and/or sediment. Settling basins shall consist of a portable tank. <br /> Basins shall have a minimum 60 minute detention time at the design flowrate. <br /> Provisions for energy dissipation of the pumped water shall be employed at the entrance to the <br /> basins to assure quiescent settling conditions in the basins. Baffles or multiple cells in portable <br /> sumps may accomplish this function. Removal of settling basins and sediment shall be <br /> accomplished after well development by the Contractor. <br /> B. Drilling Fluid Containment <br /> Drilling fluids shall be completely contained in watertight portable basins. Excavated mud pits F <br /> ll nvL_be allowed. Cuttings shall be removed regularly to assure that the fluid volume is <br /> sufficient for settling cuttings out of solution. <br /> C. Cuttings and Drilling Fluid Disposal <br /> All fluids shall be removed from the site and legally disposed of at the Contractor's expense. <br /> Cuttings may be spread onsite at a location approved by the Owner. <br /> 3.06 WELL CLEANING AND DEVELOPMENT <br /> A. General <br /> Each monitoring well shall be cleaned and developed to remove all traces of drilling fluid, <br /> improve the permeability of the zone around the well screen, and permit the taking of sediment- <br /> free samples. The development of monitor wells shall be performed as soon as practical after <br /> well installation, but no sooner than 48 consecutive hours after grout seal placement. The record <br /> 7 <br />
