Nolte and Associates, Inc. MONITORING WELLS <br /> 9. If large drilling water losses occur in bedrock and if the hole is cased to bedrock, the <br /> contractor may remove 5 times this volumetric loss prior to well insertion. The intent here <br /> is to allow the placement of a larger pump in the borehole than otherwise possible in the <br /> well casing which would then reduce the development time and remove the lost water closer <br /> to the time of loss. Development of the completed well could then be reduced by a volume <br /> equal to that which was removed as above. Record the amount removed per above on the <br /> well diagram and in the well development record (III.E.13.p.). <br /> 10. Part of well development shall be the washing of the entire well cap and the interior of the <br /> well casing above the water table using only water from that well. The result of this <br /> operation shall be a well casing free of extraneous materials (grout, bentonite, sand, etc.) <br /> inside the riser, well cap, and blank casing between the top of the well casing and the water <br /> table. This washing shall be conducted before and/or during development, not after <br /> development. <br /> 11. If problems are encountered during development, contact the Engineer within 24 <br /> consecutive hours for guidance. <br /> 12. The following data shall be recorded as part of development: <br /> a. Well designation. <br /> b. Date(s) of well installation. <br /> c. Date(s) and time of well development. <br /> d. Static water level from top of well casing before and 24 consecutive hours after <br /> development. <br /> e. Quantity of mud/water lost: <br /> 1) During drilling. <br /> 2) During fluid purging. <br /> f. Quantity of fluid in well prior to development: <br /> 1) Standing in well. <br /> 2) Contained in saturated annulus (assume 30% porosity). <br /> g. Field measurement of pH before, twice during, and after development using an <br /> electrometric device (EPA 150.1-Methods for Chemical Analysis of Water and <br /> Wastes, EPA 600/4-79-020). <br /> h. Field measurement of specific conductance before, twice during, and after <br /> development using a conductivity meter (EPA 120.1-Methods for Chemical Analysis <br /> of Water and Wastes, EPA 600/4 - 79-200). Obtain conductance and pH readings <br /> concurrently. <br /> 9 <br />
