I <br /> File Na 20-3941-0 1 E01 kTj KLE114EELDER <br /> April 2, 1997 <br /> 1 <br /> 6 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> ' Kleinfelder conducted this limited soil assessment at the EZ-Gas Mini Mart and at ARCO Gas <br /> Mins Mart to evaluate the presence of selected contaminants A total of forty-three (43) soil <br /> samples were collected from the four soil borings Twenty (20) soil samples were subsequently <br /> ' analyzed for selected analytes based on suspected contaminants that might be present at the <br /> various sites <br /> Based on the results of the subsurface assessment, Kleinfelder has the following <br /> recommendations <br /> ' 1 The equipment decontamination rinseate and drilling returns (soil) should be properly <br /> disposed of by the Client Klcinfelder can assist the Client in that disposal at an additional <br /> ' charge if requested by the client <br /> 2 If discolored soil, odors, or other evidence of contamination are encountered during site <br /> grading,development,etc , our office should be notified immediately <br /> 3 None of the hydrocarbon analytes were detected in any of the soil samples analyzed Low <br /> ' concentrations of total lead were detected in some of the soil samples analyzed The lead <br /> concentrations present appear to be indicative of naturally occurring background <br /> concentrations <br /> ' 4 Based on the results of the samples obtained during this investigation, Kleinfelder would <br /> recommend no further investigation or clean-up as it relates to the known to it at both sites �--- <br /> IThe City of Escalon must realize that the only method of detecting if contamination exists on <br /> site as a results of either station's activities will be observation and sampling during site <br /> ' demolition and during the removal of the tanks and plumbing (or in the case of the ARCO <br /> station, during the limited demolition) Removal of the underground storage tank system, any <br /> piping and dispensers will require permitting through PHS/EHD Additionally, a qualified <br /> ' hazardous materials contractor will be necessary for the excavation, removal, transportation, <br /> etc Soil sampling by a firm such as Kleinfelder will be required under the permit <br /> 5 A copy of this report should be submitted to the San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> Department Environmental Health Division and the Central Valley Office of the State of <br /> California Regional Water Quality Control Board by the City of Escalon for their review and <br /> consideration <br /> 20-3941-01 E0112017RO05 Page 9 of f 1 ®1997 Kleinfelder Inc <br /> I <br />
