File No 20-3941-01 E01 k%1 KLEfNFELDER <br /> August 20, 1996 <br /> 2 SITE SETTING <br /> 2.1 SITE LOCATION <br /> The site is a con idor for the planned improvements for California State Highway 120 and <br /> McHenry Avenue in Escalon, California Escalon is located in southeastern San Joaquin County <br /> (see Plate 1) The project area is outlined on Plate 2 of this report <br /> The site is located in Sections 4, 5, 8, and 9 of Township 2 South Range 9 East of the Mount <br /> Diablo Baseline and Meridian The northern portion of the site is located in the northeast <br /> quarter of Section 5 and the northwest quarter of Section 4 The southern portion of the site, <br /> which includes McHenry Avenue, Iies approximately between the boundaries of Sections 8 and <br /> 9 and Sections 5 and 4 <br /> 2 2 CURRENT SITE USE AND VICINITY CHARACTERISTICS <br /> The project site is currently commetcial property, state highway, city streets and utility easement <br /> areas <br /> 2.3 GEOLOGY AND HVDROGEOLOGY <br /> The site lies within the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of California The valley is about <br /> 400 miles long and averages about 50 miles wide, and comprises about 20,000 square miles <br /> The valley has been filled with a thick sequence of marine and non-marine sediments from the <br /> late Jurassic to Holocene The uppermost strata of the Great Valley represents, for the most <br /> part, the alluvial, flood, and delta plains of two major rivers (Sacramento and San Joaquin <br /> Rivers) and their tributaries <br /> The valley deposits are derived from the Coast Ranges to the west and the Sierra Nevada to <br /> the east Granitic and metamorphic rocks outcrop along the eastern and southeastern flanks of <br /> the valley Marine sedimentary rocks outcrop along most of the western, southwestern, <br /> southern, and southeastern flanks, and volcanic rocks and deposits outcrop along the <br /> northeastern flanks of the valley The valley geomorphology includes dissected uplands, low <br /> alluvial plains and fans, river flood plains and channels, and overflow lands and lake bottoms <br /> 20-3941-01 EOIIMR960163 Page 5 of 21 01996 Kleinfelder Inc <br />
