File No 20-3941-01 E01 KLEIfVFELDER <br /> 16 August 20, 1996 <br /> 3 BACKGROUND <br /> The area of the intersection of California State Highway 120 (Hwy 120) and McHenry Avenue <br /> is scheduled for an .mprovement project which involves the rerouting of Hwy 120, the <br /> widening of Hwy 120, the realignment of Hwy 120, and other miscellaneous improvements to <br /> ' both roadways <br /> In an attempt to limit their liability and to satisfy the requirements of CALTRANS District 10 <br /> (CALTRANS-10), the City of EscaIon had a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment conducted <br /> by Ogden Environmental Services of San Francisco, California Because of concerns with the <br /> Ogden scope of work and questions regarding whether or not contaminants were present in the <br /> proposed work area or on property which would require purchase, the City of Escalon requested <br /> statements of qualifications from several qualified environmental consulting firms for future <br /> investigation Kleinfelder was chosen as the consultant Later the scope of work was modified <br /> by CALTRANS-10 to evaluate it selected contaminants of concern are present at the specific <br /> depths and locations within the work area <br /> i <br /> 20-3941-01 E011MR960163 Page 7 of 21 ©1996 Kleinfelder Inc <br />
