In KLEiNFELDER <br /> File No 20-3941-01 E01 <br /> August 20, 1996 <br /> I4.2 PRE-FIE V LD ACTIVITIES <br /> Encroachment Permits were obtained from the City of Escalon prior to commencement of the <br /> Feld activities A copy of the Encroachment Permit is included in Appendix B None of the <br /> field activities associated with this investigation were performed in CALTRANS' Right-of- <br /> Way <br /> Approved Right of Entry Agreements were obtained by the City of Escalon for the borings not <br /> advanced on City of Escalon property <br /> Approved Boring Permits were obtained from PHS/EHD prior to initiating the field activities <br /> All of the Right of Entry Agreements, Encroachment Permits and PHS/EHD Boring Permits <br /> were approved and possessed by Kleinfelder prior to mobilization of the drilling equipment to <br /> the project site Additionally, prior to the field activities, Kleinfelder prepared a limited health <br /> and safety plan for field work proposed <br /> 42 DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLING <br /> The soil borings were advanced by Spectrum Exploration, Inc of Stockton, California using a <br /> CME-45 truck-mounted drill rig equipped with 6- and 8-inch outside diameter hollow stem <br /> augers Soil cuttings from the borings were temporarily placed in drums adjacent to each boring <br /> All borings were abandoned at the end of each working day by grouting with a sand/cement <br /> mortar mix Approximately the upper 2 feet of each boring in the paved areas was backfilled <br /> with cold patch or a dyed concrete, as necessary <br /> While drilling, an experienced Kleintelder environmental geologist classified the subsurface soil <br /> and logged the boreholes A copy of the Unified Soil Classification System used to classify the <br /> soil and a log key are provided in Appendix A Descriptions of the sample intervals and the soil <br /> encountered in each boring are also presented in Appendix A Kleinfelder's Field Procedures for <br /> drilling and sampling are provided in Appendix B <br /> Twenty-one (21) soil borings were advanced to a minimum depth of 10-feet below surface <br /> grade (bsg) Additionally, three (3) more borings were advanced to a minimum depth of 25 <br /> feet bsg In the event that field indications noted the presence of contamination, said boring was <br /> continued to a maximum depth of 55 feet or 10 vertical feet of samples which did not indicate <br /> the presence of contamination(whichever came first) <br /> 20-3941-01 E011MR960163 Page 10 of 21 01996, Kleinfelder, Inc <br />
