II
Request for Closure 3
Sears,Roebuck& Company,facilely 01288,5110 Pacific Ave,Stockton,California March 11,1999
(Dispenser Island and Product Line Removal and Soil Assessment, Groundwater Technology, Inc ,
September 23, 1994)
Individual grab soil samples were collected from beneath each dispenser Island and approximately
every 20 feet along the product line trenches Initial abatement measures consisted of the
excavation and off-site removal of approximately 2 cubic yafdsof used-oil Impacted soil, and
approximately 4 cubic yards of gasoline Impacted soil The excavation was backfilled with clean,
imported backfill and non-Impacted backfill from the onginal excavation Soil samples were
collected to determine if the site was Impacted from previous operation of the former service station
On August 10, 1994,three soil samples, 1A-3, 18-3 and TSW-1-1,were collected along the
excavated gasoline product line runs On August 12, 1994, seven additional samples, T2 through
T8,were collected at depths of 3-4 feet below the piping (figure 2) Samples from the excavated
gasoline product line runs were analyzed for.
■ total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) using EPA Method 8015 Modified
■ BTEX using EPA Method 8020
■ total lead using EPA Method 7420
Laboratory analyses Indicated that soil samples from the gasoline product line excavations contained
concentrations of TPH-g that ranged from 1 8 to 5 8 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) In sample T5-4'
Six samples were below the reporting limits (c1 mg/kg) for TPH-g Benzene ranged from below
reporting limits in 8 samples to 0 058 mg/kg in sample T4-4'. Total lead ranged from below the
reporting limit to 18 mg/kg in sample T74' The results for the soil samples collected from the
gasoline product line excavation are summarized in table 1
Samples collected from the oil supply line and used-oil line excavation were analyzed for
■ volatile organics compounds (VOCs) using EPA Method 8010
■ total oil and grease using EPA Method 413 2
■ total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-d) using EPA Method 8015 Modified
■ California Assessment Manual (CAM) metals using EPA Method 6000 and 7000 series
■ polychlonnated biphenyls (PCBs) using EPA Method 8080
r_%nalrsM indiccuited that soil -samples collected irvm the oil supply line and used-od hno trench
excavation contained concentrations of total oil and grease from 6 mg/kg to 460 mg/kg In sample
W01-4 TPH-d, PCBs, and all EPA 8010 compounds reported were below reporting limits
Pesticide concentrations 2 3 and 1 3 mg/kg of 4,4-DDE and 4,4-DDD, respectively, were detected in
sample W02-3 5 Results from samples collected from the oil supply/used-oil lme excavation are
presented In table 2. CAM metals analytical results are summarized In table 3
128aS&n do
