The work plan describes two phases of work which are needed so
that interim remedial measures (1RMs) can be implemented at the downgradient edge of the groundwater
contaminant plume and in the center of the plume near the suspected source areas. Phase I of the work
plan addresses IRlvfs at the downgradient edge of the plume, and Phase 2 addresses the source areas.
Phase 1 involves installing one A-zone piezometer, conducting aquifer pumping tests and modeling the
hydrogeologic environment. The scope of work is hereby approved. By 6 December 1996, please
submit a report which discusses the results of the work and includes recommendations and a time
schedule to implement IRMs. The report should also include an update regarding the source
investigation work which is already in progress.
Phase 2 includes a soil vapor extraction pilot study, installation of two A-zone piezometers, aquifer
pumping tests, and an air sparging pilot study. The work is to be completed only after additional
information becomes available through the ongoing source investigation work. The current due date for
the source investigation interim report is 31 July 1997. Therefore, by 18 April 1997, please submit a
progress report on the source investigation which includes recommendations for implementing Phase 2
of the Interim Remedial Action Work Plan.
Please continue to provide at least 72 hours notice prior to field activities in case I wish to observe or
obtain split samples.
