`1 '} DRAFT • , Levine-Fricke•Recon
wells appear to be periodically affected by soil and groundwater remediation systems
that have operated at the Exxon service station.
3.3.2 Analytical Results
3.3.2.1 Domestic Wells
In 1987, 24 domestic wells located in the Study Area were sampled by an unknown
j parry and analyzed for VOCs (Table 5). The source of this data is not known, as
described in Section 2.3. In general, the wells sampled are located in the residential
neighborhood located both north and crossgradient from Lincoln Center. Results of
j these samples indicate the following:
TCE and DCE were detected in samples collected from domestic wells located on
Edan Avenue and Rivara Road, north of Lincoln Center. TCE was detected at
concentrations ranging from 0.8 micrograms per liter (µg/l) to 76 gg/I in 7 of the
24 wells sampled. DCE was detected at concentrations ranging from 0.9 to 1.5 µg/1
in 2 of the 7 Edan Avenue wells where TCE was also detected.
PCE was detected at concentrations ranging from 0.8 to 1.2 µg/1 in one well
located on Rivara Road, north of Lincoln Center.
VOCs were not detected in samples collected from domestic wells located on
Willora Avenue or Clarane Avenue, which are located between Lincoln Center and
Edan Avenue to the north.
The absence of VOCs detected in samples collected from domestic wells located
between Lincoln Center and the wells on Edan Avenue and Rivara Road, and the
location of these wells relative to the direction of groundwater flow observed at the
Site, suggest that the VOCs detected in samples collected from these crossgradient
wells do not appear to be related to sources of VOCs identified at the Site. The source
of VOCs detected in these domestic wells is unknown.
3.3.2.2 Municipal Supply Wells
From 1984 to 1990, SJC DPW collected groundwater samples from five former
LVMD supply wells, located in the Study Area, and analyzed the samples for VOCs
(Table 5). Analytical results for groundwater samples collected from wells LVMD #1,
LVMD #2, and LVMD #6, located on Gettysburg Place on the western edge of
Lincoln Center, indicated concentrations of detected Hazardous Substances up to 120
µg/1. The Hazardous Substances PCE, TCE, and DCE were detected at concentrations
exceeding their respective Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLS). The MCLs for
these compounds are 5 for PCE, 5 for TCE, and 6 for DCE. These wells were
abandoned in 1992 by SJC DPW, as described in Section 3.4.
From 1991 to 1995, COS DMU collected groundwater samples from municipal supply
wells COS #4, COS #5, COS #11, and COS #12, located in the Study Area, and
4111WELL.AW AMI Page 13
