Antonia Vorster -2- 18 May 1990
C. Three shallow wells, one east of LVMD #2, one at the northern site boundary
and the other at the southeast corner of Gettysburg Place and Benjamin Holt
Drive appear adequate.
D. Soil boring and test well locations appear adequate.
4. San Joaquin County municipal wells LVMD #2 and #6 have been taken off line, LVMD
#1 is occasionally in operation. Our memo which is attached to our 21 December
1989 letter, clearly requires investigation of the LVMD wells (Page 7, #6). The
Phase II sampling plan does not include examination of these wells other than two
sampling rounds on LVMD #1.
5. Investigation of off-site pollution across Gettysburg Place near monitoring well
#4 must be included in the sampling plan. The soil gas survey shows significant
levels of PCE near the sewer line which leaves the property at this location. LH
recommends that this off-site investigation be delayed so remediation on-site can
be accelerated. The off-site pollution concentrations may be as significant as
on-site and should be defined with this phase of the assessment.
6. San Joaquin County' s requirement for a 50 foot sanitary seal and a minimum
distance from sewer lines is for drinking water wells and does not apply to
monitoring wells.
RPM:ej
