JAT`OF CALIFORNIA - GEORGE DEUKMEJIAN.Governor
CALIFORNIA REGIONAL WAi En QUALITY CONTROL BOARD—
CENTRAL VALLEY REGION
3443 ROUTIER ROAD g
 -
SACRAMENTO,CA 95827-3098
9 March 1988
Mr. Wilbur H. Smith
Lincoln Properties Limited
628 Lincoln Center
Stockton, CA 95207'
REVISED BORING TECHNIQUE FOR GROUND WATER INVESTIGATION, LINCOLN
VILLAGE CENTER, STOCKTON, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
The revised proposal for boring and geological sampling described
in the 1 March 1988 letter from Leedshill-Herkenhoff, Inc. , is an
improvement over the original proposal to log cuttings obtained
while boring with a mud rotary drilling rig. However, all
borings should be logged throughout the entire length of the
monitoring well, not just in the vadose zone as indicated by your
letter.
Since the subsurface investigation at this site has not been
initiated, we lack sufficient information to determine whether
additional borings to characterize the geology at the site will
be required. Therefore, we cannot rule out the need for further
geological characterization at this site. This phase of the
investigation should proceed immediately so that the ground water
gradient can be determined, an initial assessment of ground water
quality can be made, and potential source areas can be evaluated.
We request you notify us at least one week before any on-site
subsurface work is started so that we have the opportunity to
observe procedures and split samples of soil and ground water.
As stated in our 23 February 1988 letter, the Technical Report
including results from this investigation, and recommendations
for further work is still due to the Regional Board by 24 June
1988.
If you have any further questions, please contact me at (916)
861-5681.
ROBERT L. NIBLACK
Engineering Geologist G llj
RLN MAR 7 1988
cc: see attached list ENVIROMENTAL HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICES
