Levine-Fricke-Recon
Section: 8
Date Initiated:September 23, 1996
Revision No.: 1
Date Revised:August 21, 1998
8.3.1 Action Levels Determined by Air Monitoring with PID/FID
The following action levels were developed for exposure monitoring with the i
PID/FID. The air monitoring data will determine required PPE levels at the Site
during all scheduled intrusive soil and groundwater activities. The action levels for
VOCs are based on sustained readings indicated by the PID/FID. Air monitoring will
be performed at up to 15-minute intervals. If during this time, sustained measurements
are observed, the following actions will be instituted. For purposes of this HSP,
sustained readings are defined as the average airborne concentration maintained for a
period of 5 minutes.
Action Level '
Activity/Location in parts per million (ppm) Level of Personal Protection
All intrusive activities 0 to 10 ppm above Level D: No respiratory protection
scheduled at the Site. background required.
11 to 100 ppm Level C: Half-face air-purifying
respirator fitted with organic vapor
filter cartridges.
101 to 250 ppm Level C: Full-face air-purifying
respirator fitted with organic vapor
filter cartridges. ,
> 250 ppm Cease operations and evacuate work
area. Contact Director of Health and
Safety, Site Project Manager, and
LPL representative immediately.
All activities will cease if more than 250 ppm of total VOCs are detected by exposure
monitoring with the PID/FID, and the Director of Health and Safety, Site Project
Manager, and designated LPL representative will be immediately contacted. Personnel
will evacuate the area and follow the procedures outlined in Section 9 of this HSP.
Page F-24 RIFSWP-ADPF-Rev1-04111:SRL
