MAR 29 €
Harding Lawson Associates
' I
I
March 25, 1993
23343 001
Mr. Peter Meier '
John Breuner Company i
3250 Buskirk Avenue
.Pleasant Hill, California 94523
Request for Site Closure
Breuners Facility
7676 Pacific Avenue
Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Meier:
This report presents Harding Lawson Associates' request to the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) for case closure for the Breuners facility at
 , I
7676 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, California. An area topographic map is presented on
tvl
Plate 1. i
This report is in:response to a letter from the SJCEHD requesting submittal of a final
remediation plan.(FRP) prior to site closure. As a basis for site closure, this report
presents the results of soil excavation and sampling performed at the site in June 1991 and
details of work performed to meet the FRP guidelines for site closure.
SITE BACKGROUND
In 1989, a 10,000-gallon underground storage tank (UST), product piping, and dispenser
island were removed from the site. Of seven soil samples collected following UST and
product piping removal, only the sample collected beneath the dispenser island contained
detectable concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons. (Ethyldibromide detected in,`.,ather
soil samples was attributed to former agricultural practices in the site vicinity.). 1
1
in July 1991, HLA conducted an investigation to further evaluate the extent and"presence
of pptroleum hydrocarbons in soil in the vicinity of the former dispenser island. Soil that
exhibited elevated organic vapor readings or was visibly discolored was excavated using a
backhoe. Excavated soil was stockpiled onsite and sampled. When it appeared that
impacted soil had been removed, seven confirmation samples were collected from the
floor and walls of the excavation. Soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline,' diesel, and motor oil, and'for benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX).
On the basis of analytical results, it appeared that the majority of soil containing
detectable concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons had been removed by excavation,
and that no significant levels of petroleum hydrocarbons remained onsite.
