Thrifty Oil Co. Station #172
Page 3
1
i
Influent and effluent vapor samples were collected on October 16,November 25, and December
' 16, 2003 In addition, vapor samples were collected on November 20, 2003, from selected well
heads The well head, influent, and effluent vapor samples were analyzed for TPHg by EPA
' Method 8015, and BTEXIMTBE by EPA Method 8021B Field Status Reports are included in
Appendix C Copies of the influent, effluent, and well head vapor sample laboratory analytical
results arc presented in Appendix D
A historical summary of hydrocarbons removed by vapor extraction is presented in Table 3, vapor
sample analytical results for the individual wells sampling are presented in Table 5
Groundwater Treatment System
The groundwater treatment system was started in conjunction with the vapor treatment system on
April 26, 2001, and the flow meter started at zero Presently, the remediation system is
connected to groundwater well MW-11 A down-well pneumatic pump draws water into a 150-
gallon polyvinyl tank, which then transfers the water through two (2) one thousand-pound
granular activated carbon canisters in series
During the reporting period, the system was shut down on the following dates October 9,
restarted on October 15, 2003 and November 12 restarted on November 19, 2003, for carbon
changes, November 25 and restated on December 1,2003, for quarterly water sampling, and
December 11 restarted on December 16, 2003, for repair of a compressor belt A total of 26,390
gallons of water were treated and discharged during the reporting period, and 132,804 gallons
' had been treated and discharged since the commencement of groundwater treatment Historical
groundwater system operations are reported in Table 4 and 4b, and the quarterly analytical
results are presented in Appendix E
' Summary and Recommendations
' The soil vapor and groundwater extraction systems were started on April 26, 2001 A total of
77,095 pounds of hydrocarbons have been destroyed by the vapor extraction system, and 132,804
gallons of groundwater have been treated by the groundwater system During the reporting
' period, Thnfy removed well MW-10 for the groundwater treatment system due to declining
hydrocarbon concentrations and is now focusing groundwater cleanup efforts only on well MW-
11
1
•
1
