First Quarter 2005 <br /> Thnfty#172 <br /> Apn126, 2005 <br /> Page 4 <br /> During the fourth quarter of 2004, the soil vapor extraction unit (VEU) was down due to <br /> a problem with the extraction blower motor Thrifty sent the motor out for repair or <br /> replacement and recently was informed that the blower needed to be replaced The <br /> system was restarted on March 4, 2005 As of March 29, 2005, a total of 92,542 pounds <br /> of hydrocarbons have been removed by the VEU (Table 3) Field Status Reports are <br /> included in Appendix C and air analytical results are provided in Appendix D <br /> A historical summary of hydrocarbons removed by vapor extraction is presented in Table <br /> 3, vapor sample analytical results for the individual wells sampling are presented in <br /> Table 5 <br /> Groundwater Treatment System <br /> The groundwater treatment system was started in conjunction with the vapor treatment <br /> system on April 26, 2001, and the flow meter started at zero Presently, the remediation <br /> system is connected to groundwater well MW-11 A down-well pneumatic pump draws <br /> water into a 150-gallon polyvinyl tank, which then transfers the water through two (2) <br /> one thousand-pound granular activated carbon canisters in series <br /> • During the reporting period, the system was shut down for carbon change out on the <br /> following dates January 18 through January 25, 2005 and March 8 through March 15, <br /> 2005 The system was shut down for quarterly monitoring and sampling from February <br /> 21 through March 1, 2005 A total of 117,110 gallons of water were treated and <br /> discharged during the reporting period, and 481,274 gallons had been treated and <br /> discharged since the commencement of groundwater treatment Historical groundwater <br /> system operations are reported in Table 4a and 4b, and the quarterly analytical results are <br /> presented in Appendix E <br /> Summary and Recommendations <br /> The soil vapor and groundwater extraction systems were started on April 26, 2001 A <br /> total of 92,542 pounds of hydrocarbons have been destroyed by the vapor extraction <br /> system, and 481,2.74 gallons of groundwater have been treated by the groundwater <br /> system The VEU system was down during the current quarter due to mechanical <br /> problems with a blower Due to declining dissolved hydrocarbon concentrations in other <br /> onsite wells, Thrifty focused groundwater cleanup efforts only on well MW-11 during the <br /> reporting penod <br />
