A WW FA 9-ft
March 1, 1993 Working To Restore Nature
711 Pershing Avenue, Stockton, California
Investigation-of-Soil
On January 27, 1993, a tec-ician from RESNA hand-augered four soil borings (B-1 through
B-4) to approximately 10'feet below grade. Boring locations are shown o Plate 2. The
technician collected soil samples from the borings at approximately 5 a210 feet below
grade. The technician did not observe soil discoloration, hydrocarbon odor, or other
subjective evidence of chemical residue. Aftercompleting hand-augering and sampling, the
technician backfilled the borings with a neatJcement, observed by personnel of SJCPHS-
EHD. (PA)/
Laboratory Analyses
Soil samples collected from 5 feet below grade in each boring were submitted to a State-
certified laboratory for analysis of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) and as
diesel (TPHd) using Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Methods 5030 and 8015,
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylene isomers usiW,:Ia_nd
A Methods 5030 and
8020, total oil and grease (TOG) using EPA Method pesticides and
polychlorinated biphenyl compounds (PCBs) using EPA Method 8080. Samples were
analyzed at RESNAAnalytical Laboratory in Fremont,California(Hazardous Waste Testing
Certificate No. 1211) and Sequoia Analytical Laboratory in Redwood City, California
(Hazardous Waste Testing Certificate No. 1210).
Results of Investigation and Recommendations
Laboratory analysis detected oil and grease (as TOG) and diesel-range hydrocarbons (as
TPHd) at concentrations of 190 and 210 parts perIlion, respectively, in one sample, that
submitted from boring B-4. Gasoline (as TPHg) aredBTEX were not detected in any of the
samples submitted for laboratory analysis. The pesticides Chlordane and 4,4'-DDT were
detected in samples submitted from three of the four borings (B-1, B-2, and B-4),
concentrations of other pesticide and PCB analytes were below laboratory detection limits.
Results of laboratory analysis are shown on Table 1, and copies of laboratory reports are
attached. Soil generated from the borings was stockpiled on-site, encased in plastic sheering.
Disposal of those soil cuttings remains the responsibility of Swett and Crawford Group.
0128jcom
32M-1 2
