(ERI) on your behalf for the above-
referenced site. In the work plan ERI proposes the advancement of three paired cone
penetration testing (CPT) borings to a total depth of approximately 140 feet below
ground surface (bgs) for hydrostratigraphic evaluation beneath the ground surface and
collection of depth-discreet groundwater samples from adjacent twin borings; and
installation of one four-inch diameter groundwater monitoring well screened between
approximately 160 and 165 feet bgs located approximately 20 feet southwest of MW-1.
EHD approves the advancement of the three CPT borings, one approximately 155 feet
west of monitoring well MW-3, one approximately 100 feet south of MW-3, and one in
the County right-of-way approximately 75 feet east of MW-2. The CPT borings will
provide a continuous log of computer-interpreted soil types to help identify optimal
locations for collecting grab groundwater samples from a borehole advanced adjacent to
each CPT boring.
EHD also approves the installation of monitoring well MW-6 southwest and adjacent to
the source area to delineate the vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in
soil and groundwater. ERI has indicated that soil samples will be collected at a minimum
of five-foot intervals from surface grade to approximately 50 feet bgs and from
approximately 140 feet bgs to total depth of approximately 160 to 170 feet bgs, while
continuously collecting soil samples from five feet above the proposed screen interval to
total depth to target the water-bearing zone. Soil and groundwater samples collected
during the well installation and adjacent to the CPT borings will be analyzed for total
petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g); benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,
and total xylenes (BTEX); 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB),
methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary-amyl
methyl ether(TAME), di-isopropyl ether(DIPE), and tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA).
