(AGE) and you were directed to implement the work by
September 23, 2004. The CPT borings were advanced in October 2004, but the two
proposed monitoring wells have not been installed to date.
Based on the CPT stratigraphic profile, two grab groundwater samples were collected from
the first CPT boring at depths of 117 feet below surface grade (bsg) to 120 feet bsg, and 129
feet bsg to 132 feet bsg. To minimize the possibility of cross-contamination between
samples taken from the same boring, a third grab groundwater was collected at 135 feet bsg
to 138 feet bsg from a separate CPT boring. An investigation report of the CPT findings
has not been prepared by AGE to date, but EHD has received from AGE a fax copy of the
analytical results of the three grab groundwater CPT samples. Selected analytical results of
the three CPT grab groundwater samples are as follows:
TPH- Total Xylenes tn, ,o EDB 1,2-DCA
117ft-120ftbsg 1,400 470 3.2 ND <0.5u /l
129 ft-132 ft bsg 340 57 ND <0.5u /l ND <0.5u /1
135ft-138ftbsg 1,400 490 14 8.3
TPH-gr = Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline;EDB = 1,2-dibromoethane
1,2-DCA = 1,2-dicholoroethane
With the exception of the two lead scavenger additives EDB and 1,2-DCA, no petroleum
hydrocarbon contaminants were detected at concentrations above their respective Primary
Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) established by California Department of Health
Services. Due to the existence of multiple private drinking water wells downgradient of the
site on the east side of Frontage Road, the need to identify the vertical and lateral extent of
the contamination in groundwater is urgent. In a telephone conversation with you on
February 23, 2005, EHD directed you to install the remaining monitoring wells by April 30,
2005. In a telephone conversation on March 18, 2005,AGE stated they were informed by
the California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) that the location of the
